Under my first term as Mayor, North Tonawanda has experienced historic growth and a renewed sense of community thanks to the hard work of our city departments, local businesses, elected officials, and the support of New York State. These past years have been defined by progress and perseverance, all while staying true to our core principle: Progress Over Politics.
Fiscal Responsibility & Stability:
- Developed a structurally sound $45+ million budget while rebuilding city reserves from $300,000 when I first took office to over $3 million and growing—ensuring long-term financial health.
- Stabilized our credit rating and increased sales tax revenue through transparent, disciplined financial management, fostering economic confidence in North Tonawanda.
Transformative Infrastructure & Public Works:
- Completed a historic amount of road repairs and sidewalk replacements, improving safety, accessibility, and the overall streetscape
- Enhanced tree maintenance and landscaping, beautifying the city and making it more walkable.
- Secured millions in state and federal grants to modernize traffic intersections, expand and connect bike paths, and upgrade equipment to ensure the Public Works Department has the tools needed to maintain city infrastructure efficiently.
Revitalized Parks & Recreation:
- Achieved record-breaking success at Deerwood Golf Course, generating $1.5+ million in revenue annually, strengthening its role as a top regional attraction.
- Enhanced community spaces with new playground equipment, park renovations, and improved recreational facilities, making parks more accessible and enjoyable for all.
- Spearheaded major projects, including the new Payne Park Aquatic Facility, a new community center for seniors & youth, and public enhancements along our waterfront, expanding recreational opportunities for residents.
Economic Development & Downtown Renewal:
- Secured $35 million in grants to support public and private projects and developments, leveraging over $100 million in private investment to drive growth.
- Issued a record number of building permits, reflecting the unprecedented level of development and investment happening throughout the city.
- Increased residential housing options, with 250+ new units planned in the next two years, ensuring sustainable growth and expanded living opportunities.
- North Tonawanda’s City Market was recognized as the #1-ranked public market in the nation. Investments were made in walkability improvements and overall enhancements, including a new Hometown Heroes Wall, a community mural, and infrastructure upgrades to enrich the market experience.
- Advanced the redevelopment of Tonawanda Island, including the 78 Bridge Street project, to catalyze mixed-use development and long-term economic sustainability.
- Strengthened partnerships with local businesses, developers, and stakeholders, fostering a pro-growth environment while maintaining the city’s character and community focus.
- Established a Rental Registry Program to address absentee landlords and improve residential properties
Enhanced Public Safety & Services:
- Upgraded police and fire equipment, including the purchase of a new fire hose truck to improve emergency response.
- Expanded the Police Department, adding new School Resource Officers in partnership with the school district to enhance student safety.
- Increased community education and outreach, hosting safety seminars and public awareness programs to keep residents informed and prepared.
- Continued to make North Tonawanda one of the safest cities in New York State through proactive policing, fire safety improvements, and community engagement.
Upgraded Utilities & Infrastructure:
- Launched a citywide infrastructure study to assess and plan for long-term improvements to roads, water, and sewer systems.
- Implemented a new automatic meter program for residents, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and leak detection for water usage.
- Secured $15 million in grants for major upgrades to water and wastewater treatment plants, ensuring long-term reliability and sustainability.
- Addressed aging infrastructure through proactive maintenance and strategic investment in water distribution, sewer systems, and stormwater management.
- Introduced North Tonawanda’s first citywide fiber internet provider, partnering with Greenlight Networks to deliver high-speed, affordable internet access to residents and businesses.
