I will work tirelessly to bring everyone in city hall and our community together for the betterment of North Tonawanda while keeping taxes low, provide services and safety while expanding our development, population, and tax base. Before becoming mayor, Austin served as Alderman-at-Large for North Tonawanda, where he worked on several initiatives focused on fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and community development. His experience in city planning and governance laid the groundwork for his future leadership as mayor.
In 2022, Austin was elected Mayor of North Tonawanda. Since taking office, his administration has made significant strides in transforming the city, focusing on key areas such as financial stability, infrastructure enhancement, public safety, and community development.
Key achievements under Mayor Tylec’s leadership include:
- Financial Responsibility: Restored the city’s fund balance, increasing reserves from $288,000 to over $3 million, strengthening fiscal health, and stabilizing the city’s credit rating.
- Infrastructure Improvements: Secured over $15 million in grants for critical upgrades to water and wastewater facilities, launched a city-wide infrastructure study to address aging systems, and made significant strides in road repairs, sewer improvements, and enhancing walkability.
- Public Safety: Expanded the police department with additional School Resource Officers, modernized fire services with new equipment, including a new fire hose truck, and supported both departments to ensure North Tonawanda remains one of the safest cities in New York State.
- Economic Development: Secured $35 million in state and federal grants for public and private projects, revitalized key business areas, including Oliver Street and downtown, 250+ new residential units over the next two years, and advancing Tonawanda Island as the next major growth catalyst.
- Community Engagement: Launched a weekly newsletter, increased public events, and prioritized transparency, accessibility, and community connection to ensure North Tonawanda residents stay informed and engaged in local government.
